Abstract/Notes: This article discusses some aspects of the arithmetic of Fibonacci's Liber Abbaci and the related pedagogical idea of the Pisan mathematician, described in the Prologue of the work and which can be seen from reading the text. This treaty indirectly influenced the teaching tradition in the Italian peninsula. One of manuscripts of the work was later rediscovered by Baldassarre Boncompagni and the first treatise on abacus in the European world returned to circulate in Italian cultural clubs in the Risorgimento period. Probably, Maria Montessori in her school experience came into contact with the work of Fibonacci which left a clear trace in her subsequent pedagogical proposals.

Abstract/Notes: How can we prepare the younger generation to effectively navigate various sources, whether they are books, social media, or ChatGPT, to find accurate and verified data and information? What strategies should we employ to instill confidence in their ability to engage in independent and exploratory learning, while cultivating skepticism towards jargon, authoritative figures, and ideological viewpoints? How can we adopt an approach to understanding reality that not only embraces uncertainties, doubts, and inevitable dead ends but also acknowledges the profound social and cultural complexities inherent in science? How can we liberate ourselves from obsolete narratives, including those associated with the rhetoric of the scientific method? In these times, questions seem to outweigh answers. Moreover, whether in the classroom or the laboratory, progressing through thoughtful inquiries is perhaps the most reliable path to navigate a reality that is increasingly unfolding in digital spaces.

Abstract/Notes: As is well known, Maria Montessori’s pedagogy, at the beginning of the last century, brought about a radical change in the teacher’s relationship with her pupils: educating means to provide the tools for the child to develop his or her personality to the full in self-fulfilment with others. This article therefore focuses on the Cosmic Education project that Maria Montessori elaborated and experimented with during the period she lived in India, and which was aimed at children aged 6 to 12. Some derivations of Montessori’s reflections are then traced in the 2012 National Directions for the Curriculum for Preschool and First Cycle Education. In fact, the latter take up what Montessori has always maintained, namely the importance of not separating basic cultural literacy from education to the principles of civil coexistence, providing the necessary tools for autonomous, conscious and responsible thinking and acting with regard to the entire cosmos.

Abstract/Notes: Ritgerðin sem hér birtist er lokaverkefni til B.A.-prófs í ítölsku. Í henni er fjallað um hugmyndafræði ítölsku kennslukonunnar Mariu Montessori sem er án efa einn af áhrifamestu brautryðjendum í menntun barna á síðustu öld. Megin tilgangur verkefnisins var að skoða áhrif hugmyndafræði Mariu Montessori á Íslandi og í íslenskum skólum. Sá skóli á Íslandi sem styðst mest við Montessori aðferðina er Vesturbæjarskóli í Reykjavík. Ritgerðin byggir að hluta til á viðtali sem tekið var við kennslukonuna Hrefnu Birnu Björnsdóttir sem hefur stundað nám í Montessori fræðum í Hollandi en starfar í dag sem kennari fyrir 3. bekk í Vesturbæjarskóla.

Abstract/Notes: Í þessari ritgerð mun ég fjalla um heimsfræga konu að nafni Maria Montessori.
